From strength to strength

By John Donald Sandy | Programme Director

Full tummies, happy faces!
Full tummies, happy faces!

Dear friends,

Here at the We Are the Future school, we count our blessings every day.

It wasn't so long ago that our country was devastated by the Ebola epidemic. Yet, even after being declared Ebola free by the World Health Organisation, life is still very difficult for most Sierra Leoneans. The country is still recovering from the country-wide State of Emergency, where shops, markets, schools and most businesses were closed for over a year. People lost their jobs and their source of income. Now, it's almost been a year but inflation and rocketing prices of foodstuffs and fuel, makes it difficult for everyone to make ends meet.

This is why we are so happy to have our Kids Kitchen and our school's vegetable garden.

I wish you could see for yourself what a difference your contribution has made through this project!

Thanks to you, children have a nutritious meal every day of the week - often it is the only meal they have that day. They have more energy to study and play. They can concentrate in class and enjoy learning and their health has improved as well. The parents are so relieved, they tell us every day how grateful they are. Of course, such a success didn't go unnoticed: we have received many more enrollment requests and have now increased the number of students to 200 (Class 1 to 5).

You are part of this amazing success story!

I hope you feel inspired to know your generosity has had such an impact. And if you would like to continue your support by making another gift, you'd be ensuring we can continue this programme for years to come. For example, with a regular gift of just £6 (or $7.5) per month, you would allow us to feed one child for an entire month.

Thank you again for being such a generous supporter of our programme. The kitchen and garden you helped to start has been life-changing for the 200 students at our school. I hope you will help us continue to feed young minds. Thank you.

I can't remember what they said but it was funny!
