By The Greater Boston Food Bank | Ending Hunger Here in Eastern Massachusetts
A 77-year-old immigrant from the Dominican Republic -- a client of The Harwich Food Pantry -- regularly relies on the nutririous produce, eggs, and food staples that the pantry receives from the Greater Boston Food Bank.
This client moved to Cape Cod with his wife a few years ago to be with his daughter and two granddaughters. In spite of his age, he works in maintenance at a hotel on Cape Cod, drawing on his previous experience as an electrician in his home country. He says his salary is $23,000-25,000 per year, and the pantry helps supplement this income. Thanks to the pantry and the food he and his family obtain there, he is able to stretch his budget and afford other basic necessities. Most importantly, he can enjoy time with his family.
Recognizing that food is fundamental to health, we work to meet immediate needs while also strengthening the emergency and charitable food system for the future.Through the collaborative partnerships that the Greater Boston Food Bank nurtures with partners like The Harwich Food Pantry, we aim to make access to healthy food one less burden for Massachusetts families struggling to make ends meet.
