Social Development International (SODEIT) took part in the march 8th, 2014 celebrations – INternational Women's Day in Buea by distributing some 200 flyers carrying messages on HIV, Adolescent Reproductive Health and Teenage Pregnancies in Cameroon. This distribution was done by some SODEIT staff, some Teenage mothers and Adolescent girls of Bonduma and Bolifamba. During the match-pass which was part of the activities marking the March 8th celebrations in Buea, SODEIT participated in the match-pass with some staff of the organization and the Teenage Mothers’ Institute (TMI) was represented by fifteen teens from Bolifamba, Bonduma and a lady who admired the organization and decided to part-take in the match-pass with SODEIT.
In the course of the match-pass, the organization march with placards carrying messages of the theme of the celebration which was ‘Implementations and challenges Of Millennium Development Goals For Women’. The messages included: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, Achieve universal primary education, Promote gender equality and empower women, Reduce child mortality, Improve maternal health, Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, Ensure environmental sustainability, Develop a global partnership for development.
In all, nineteen young girls and women took part in the match-pass which was a success. After the match-pass, more flyers were distributed to the population at the field. From the grand stand – Bongo square where the celebrations in Buea took place, SODEIT staff, teenage mothers and adolescent girls moved to the TMI for socialization. In the start of the celebrations at the institute, the Project Administrator – Okole opened the occasion with a word of prayer inviting the presence of the Holy Spirit in the midst of the celebration, followed by a word of welcome and thanks to the teens for their support and participation in SODEIT’s celebration of 8th March, 2014. as part of the activities and celebration of the day, food and drinks were given to all participants with the CEO of SODEIT being a part of the celebration and a male volunteer to the organization. The teens and staff expressed their joy of the day by dancing and singing at the TMI, after which transportation fare was distributed to the teens of Bolifamba and Bomduma by Okole on behalf of SODEIT.
