We want to give you the option of directing where your money goes since donating is personal, and often you want to contribute to something special that means something to you. For example, you may fund a child's education for a year because you understand how vital education is for the future, or you are passionate about healthy nutrition and want to ensure that our children are always given all the nutrients they need to learn at their best.
We believe that children's abilities are the same everywhere, but oppprtunity isn't. Even the brightest children are held back by extreme rural poverty, early marriage, inadequate local schools, displacement due to conflict and the pressure to work. High School completion rates for the poorest rural communities are just 3% in Zambia, 13% in India and 10% in Nepal (UNESCO UIS 2019z).
Our experts work with local communities in poor rural areas to select the brightest 10 year old children (two girls for each boy), and with their families' encouragement, we offer these children the opportunity to move to one of our Pestalozzi Villages. Here, we employ the Head, Heart and Hands educational philosophy of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, where children receive an excellent education (Head), a nurturing child-centred environment (Heart) and are taught practical life skills (Hands).
Our monitoring shows that our Alumni are becoming a new generation of teachers, health professionals, entrepreneurs, aid workers and leaders, equipped with the tools they need to change their local communities and countries. Our Alumni are 3 times more likely in Asia and 11 times more likely in Zambia to achieve a university or college qualification than national averages. 70% have volunteered in projects to help others, are in careers of public service or have supported others financially.
