In the autumnschool we provide workshops for indigenous children (4 tot 12 years) , selling crafts at the streets of San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. In a playful way we improve their wellbeing, working on technical skills and self-esteem. We use art as a resource to open their mind. The children learn computerskills and English as well as to express themselves by art (painting, ceramics, and literature, handicrafts). To improve their weak health conditions we serve a nutritious breakfast.
Chiapas is a state with the highest poverty rates in Mexico and the highest birth rate among underage girls. Often children with indigenous roots don't have access to education due to lack of economic resources. They are limited to work on the street in informal economy jobs, triggering many risks of abuse in addition to migration to other states and to the US in risk conditions.
The autumn school will give young children between the age of 4 and 12 them the opportunity to learn in a playful way. Chantiik gives them a warm and secure home where they can play and be a child without the responsibility of earning money at a very young age. We help them to improve their low self-esteem by offering therapeutic craft workshops and psychological coaching. Many of them are in bad health conditions so we offer them a daily nutritious breakfast .
The children will generate technical and psychosocial skills that will help them improve their living conditions and their learning ability. Their mental wellbeing will improve by encouraging their self- esteem and coaching them to solve mental pressure. As so they will develop themselves to be stronger, consciously about their social and labor rights and more prepared to grow up as responsible adult with equal educational and work opportunities .
