Disaster Relief for Immigrants - Fall 2021 Update

By Jennifer Berry | Grants Associate

The 805 UndocuFund has provided assistance to residents of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties for nearly four years, working tirelessly to address the immediate and long-term impacts of record-breaking wildfires and deadly mudslides.

The global pandemic has relentlessly interrupted long-term wildfire recovery for hundreds of people, while adding widespread impact of its own.  And so the efforts of 805 UndocuFund have doubled so that every undocumented resident can continue the journey of disaster recovery.

Every dollar contributed to 805 UndocuFund is granted directly to a person living in our community with critical needs.  These needs include rent or rebuilding support, health care for long-term injuries or illness, vocational support, and help to care for vulnerable household members including both children and elders.

To meet the needs that 805 UndocuFund is uniquely designed for, Maria Melo has recently been named as its first permanent Executive Director.  Before Ms. Melo, Eder Gaona-Macedo served simultaneously as interim Director of 805 UndocuFund and Executive Director of Future Leaders of America.

805 UndocuFund leaders and staff will continue to work year-round to support the entire community with education and resources, and to raise funds for ongoing disaster recovery.  We invite the entire 805 UndocuFund community of supporters to celebrate its past accomplishments and to join in creating a healthy, secure future for our undocumented community members!
