Establish a Thalassemia Center in Lahore serving thousands of patients from the city and surrounding districts. Sundas Foundation requests funding for medical equipment (blood bank fridge, centrifuge, transfusion and dialysis chairs). Government provides the space; Sundas covers operational costs. Services include free transfusions, chelation therapy, genetic counseling, and lab diagnostics.
Lahore's tertiary hospitals are overcrowded, and patients from across Punjab also travel there for care. Families face long queues, high transfusion-transmitted infection risk (HCV, HBV) from unscreened blood, and unaffordable chelation drugs. Genetic counseling and carrier screening are scarce.
The Lahore center will provide free, screened blood transfusions, iron chelation therapy, genetic counseling and diagnostics. The government provides the space; Sundas manages operations, staffing and community awareness programs, and the center can also support training for staff at smaller units.
Shorter waits, fewer infections and complications, and lower new thalassemia cases through counseling and screening. Lahore can act as a model and referral base for other cities.
