I did my primary education at Daina Kaimba basic school in Chunga compound. I grew up with my parents and ten other family members in Chunga. Our home is adjacent to a church space that my father uses to run a church called Jesus Christ Rock. During primary school, I often relied on the generosity of my teacher, who gave me free lessons and fed me from her home. Finding clean water is an additional struggle for my family. Fortunately, in grade seven, Kucetekela Foundation (KF) selected me for a scholarship that enabled me to continue to my secondary education. They sponsored my entire secondary education at a prestigious school.
After my selection to the KF scholarship, I went to Chalo Trust School. In my 9th grade exams, I ranked first in the whole of my class. Due to such an exceptional academic performance, I was selected in various leadership roles, including Medical Prefect, and later on as the School Head boy.
Under the KF program I attended various capacity building programs such as internships, the annual Zambia Model United Nations (ZAMUN) where in 2019 I was awarded the Best Speaker Award, summer programs like the United World Colleges (UWC) student workshop, Yale Young African Scholars program (YYAS) in Ghana and the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) program in the United States of America in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
In grade eleven, I spent a week interning at LegalAid Board a government agency that provides legal services to citizens that cannot afford lawyers to represent them. This was part of KF’s Work Experience program. During my internship, I was able to watch court proceedings in the high court, learn about the Zambian penal code, and greet clients in the office. That time at LegalAid helped to shape my career decision.
With the help of the KF Gap year program which tutored me on University applications and provided me with the necessary resources for my applications, I got acceptance into Ashoka University in India with a full scholarship. I am currently in my third year pursuing a major in Political Science and a minor in International relations.
