Inequality in Peru has been evident at all times, including and even more in the context that we are living due to COVID-19 where boys and girls from high socioeconomic levels maintain more opportunities to recreate with access to private beaches, clubs or large open spaces.
This reality is the opposite of those boys and girls who live in places of vulnerability that do not have adequate space to play, having to take advantage of the opportunity to go out and get distracted in unsafe places such as sidewalks or tracks. There is definitely no government that cares about the well-being of those most in need and does not consider the mental health of the little ones who lack safe public spaces to carry out activities in this pandemic as a priority.
This is how our organization has been executing sports programs for a long time that allow us to provide greater opportunities to the little ones who live in contexts of vulnerability:
Project the "S"
A recreational space and contact with nature for children and their caregivers was developed in conjunction with the community. Taking into account the context and the need for safe and beneficial spaces for mental health, this park was developed that benefits approximately 50 boys and girls.
Muay thai project
Thanks to the joint work and great ideas of the entire project team, different sports activities were carried out with all the appropriate protocols to keep us healthy and strong. From online classes, running through the Morro Solar and training in open spaces and with distance, we knew how to face and overcome this situation together.
