Just days after yet another hurricane hit the North Carolina coast, Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC) is submitting this final report on funding it received from Global Giving in April 2019. Since April, LSC has used all remaining grant funds to provide temporary shelter assistance to a total of 51 Hurricane Florence survivor households, consisting of 112 adults and children. The impact this funding has had on survivors is almost unimaginable. Not only has it assisted in moving them out of terrible situations, such as living in tents, cars or mold-riddled homes, but it has also reminded them that they have not been forgotten. Thank you to everyone that made all of this possible!
Since 2016, North Carolina has been affected by three massive hurricanes — Matthew, Florence and now Dorian. While the damage from Dorian does not appear to be widespread in the state, it hit some of the same families who are still struggling to recover from the last two storms. There are so many people all across eastern North Carolina who still need assistance. LSC disaster case managers remain in these affected communities to let survivors know they are not alone and to help them rebuild their lives.
