China has been battling with Omicron since the beginning of 2022. The epidemic hit Shanghai hard in the month of March and onward. Our efforts to help protect some of the most vulnerable people - children of migrant workers living in Shanghai continued, particularly in COVID control. We created a series of animated videos explaining the virus, ways of transmission and how to protect oneself from getting infected. As the virus evolved, we had to respond with more caution. Supplies of sanitizers and masks were provided for the students and teachers to use.
We understand that it is equally important for the students to stay mentally healthy in the COVID era. We organize parent-child book reading contests not only to encourage the students to develop a passion for books, which they will appreciate when they are not able to go to school, but also to create an opportunity for the parents to bond with their children during the COVID lockdown. Each participating family is asked to shoot a video of family reading time or a role-play of a story they like.
As we continue to battle COVID, we learn to be adaptive of the ever changing situation and creative with the ways we interact with migrant students to better prepare them for the challenging time.
We thank you again for your steadfast support. We look forward to sharing with you more program updates soon!
