During our Teen Girl's Workshop, we were happy to see two familiar faces. The two daughters of Daisy, a Women's Income Generating Group member at Shanti, participated actively throughout the workshop. Teddy, 18 and Benah, 14, live with their mother 4 miles from Shanti. We were very happy that they could be a part of the workshop, as was their mother. Daisy, who has been a part of our team for five years, expressed her love for the workshop and her joy that her daughters were able to participate.
Daisy had hoped that Teddy and Benah would learn many valuable life skills and lessons from the Teen Girl's Workshop. She had hoped that they would learn how to face every day challenges on their own. These challenges include, menstruation pains, sexual and emotional relationships, and maintaining good health. This caring mother had encouraged her children to participate in the workshop, so that they may learn more about themselves in order to make decisions that are best for them.
At home, after the workshop, Daisy and her daughters discussed what they had learned. The girls have always been comfortable with asking questions and learning from their mother, however, Daisy was happy to know that what she has taught them over the years, corresponds with what was taught at the workshop. She now feels confident that by hearing the information from two different sources, Teddy and Benah will have a stronger grasp of it.
Daisy learned these lessons about a woman's life from her aunt and her mother. Although she is grateful for their help, she is glad her daughters are being taught this valuable information in school, at home and in a workshop. Daisy is happy that her daughters were able to learn and ask questions in a comfortable environment surrounded by girls who face similar challenges as them.
We would like to thank you for all of your donations and interest in our Teen Girl's Workshop. It is because of your help that we were able to provide valuable information and support to many girls from villages in the area.
