Last week Shanti Uganda Society had the privilege of hosting a Teen Girls Workshop.
Among the girls in attendance was 17 year old Jhamim. After hearing about the upcoming workshop, Jhamim and her friends travelled about 1 kilometer eager to see what Shanti had in store for them.
Jhamim lives at home with her mother and father along with 1 brother and 6 sisters. She is currently in Senior 4 (Grade 12) which makes her a candidate for university/college next year. Although, Jhamim plans on continuing her high school education until Senior 6. This is because, when she grows up Jhamim plans on being a health worker - specifically a nurse - and knows that she needs to obtain her Senior 6 certificate before she can enroll in a nursing course. Jhamim says she wants to become a health worker to improve the quality of life in her country and save more Ugandan lives. According to this aspiring nurse, "without health workers, Ugandans can not survive".
In school, Jhamim's favourite subject is English but she has taken a liking to Science as she knows she will need it to achieve her dreams of becoming a nurse. Alongside being active as a head girl and prefect, Jhamim is also the defending champion of the school debate team. When not at school, Jhamim keeps busy at home helping her family graze cows and fetch water. In her spare time she continues to nurture her love for English class through keeping up with the latest and best novels.
As Jhamim was previously aware of Shanti Uganda's reputation, she came to the Teen Girls workshop full of expectations! Along side making new friends, Jhamim came excited to learn more about her life and body.
Stay tuned for an update on Jhamim's week at the Teen Girls Workshop.
