These last few months, we have seen incredible support for girls' empowerment.
Numerous groups in Canada volunteered their time to create reusable pads for our Teen Girls program, including the Elgin Park Secondary School and Semiahmoo Rotary Club. Hannah, a 15 year old from British Columbia, has even started her own organization focusing on making reusable pads for girls in under-resourced areas. You can read more about her work with Shanti Uganda in her guest blog here.
We hosted our last Teen Girls Workshop of 2018 in November: 33 girls from the New Life Secondary School joined us for 3 days of education and empowerment. They even enjoyed a couple of dance breaks in between lessons! The girls were happy to go home knowing more about their menstrual health and gender equality.
Recently, we visited some of the schools who had previously attended our Teen Girls Workshop in order to speak to former participants and see how the workshop had impacted their lives. Students at Destiny Christian High School, who had attended the workshop last spring, told us about how they were using their newly acquired knowledge and skills to teach others what they had learned. Many of the girls had educated their peers about topics like proper menstrual sanitation. One girl had even begun making reusable pads for her friends!
As we move into 2019, we hope to continue empowering young women in our community. Thank you for your continued support of this work!
