Inclusive Technology for ALL (IT4ALL) Programme

By Abraham Raymond | Programme Assistant

The IT4ALL Programme continues to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) to develop digital skills, build confidence, and engage with technology in an inclusive learning environment.

Over the past three months, we have focused on strengthening foundational digital literacy, introducing interactive educational technologies, and evaluating programme effectiveness to better meet the diverse needs of our learners.

Digital Literacy and Technology Skills Development

During this reporting period, 21 learners participated in foundational digital literacy training. Sessions focused on helping participants develop essential computer skills such as using a mouse, keyboard, touchscreen devices, opening applications, and navigating digital learning tools independently.

We are pleased to report that 70% of learners now demonstrate increased confidence when interacting with digital devices. The remaining learners continue to receive individualized support tailored to their unique learning needs and abilities.

These achievements represent important steps toward greater digital inclusion and independence for our participants.

Learning Through Interactive Educational Technology

To support diverse learning styles, participants engaged with GCompris, an educational software platform that combines learning and play through a wide range of interactive activities.

Learners explored activities focused on:

  • Computer discovery skills, including keyboard, mouse, and touchscreen use
  • Reading and literacy development
  • Basic numeracy and arithmetic concepts
  • Memory and strategy games
  • Recognition of colours, shapes, and time concepts

The use of interactive educational software has helped increase learner engagement while providing opportunities to develop cognitive, communication, and digital skills in an enjoyable and accessible way.

Building Problem-Solving and Cognitive Skills

Hands-on activities remained a core component of programme delivery. Learners participated in puzzles, matching exercises, and digital drag-and-drop activities designed to strengthen problem-solving abilities, fine motor coordination, concentration, and critical thinking.

These activities have also encouraged teamwork, patience, and active participation among learners, contributing to their overall personal development and confidence.

Developing Typing and Keyboard Skills

As part of our efforts to strengthen practical digital competencies, selected learners were introduced to Typing Land, an engaging platform that supports keyboard familiarity and typing development.

Participants demonstrated progress in key recognition, finger placement, and typing rhythm. While some learners have already begun completing exercises independently, additional learners will be introduced to the platform progressively as part of our ongoing programme enhancement efforts.

Annual Evaluation and Learner Progress

This reporting period also included our annual programme evaluation, providing an opportunity to assess learner development and gather valuable feedback from facilitators, caregivers, and stakeholders.

The evaluation revealed encouraging progress in several areas, including:

  • Increased learner confidence and self-expression
  • Improved focus and attention during learning activities
  • Enhanced communication and social interaction skills
  • Greater enthusiasm for technology-based learning

These outcomes reinforce the value of inclusive digital education in supporting the growth and development of individuals with IDD.

Programme Review and Strategic Improvement

One of the most significant activities undertaken during this period was a comprehensive review of the IT4ALL Programme. Drawing on evaluation findings, facilitator observations, and caregiver feedback, the team has begun implementing strategic improvements to strengthen programme delivery and learner outcomes.

Our current focus includes:

  • Enhancing curriculum structure and learner progression pathways
  • Strengthening individualized learning approaches
  • Expanding hands-on and practical learning opportunities
  • Increasing the use of adaptive and assistive technologies
  • Improving monitoring, evaluation, and impact measurement systems
  • Creating more engaging and responsive learning experiences

These improvements will help ensure that the programme remains effective, inclusive, and responsive to the evolving needs of our learners.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the next phase of the programme, we remain committed to providing accessible and meaningful digital learning opportunities for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

Your support continues to make this work possible. Together, we are helping learners develop valuable digital skills, build confidence, and unlock new opportunities for participation and independence.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
