As part of Leadership Initiatives' International Internship Program, Team 26307 is partnering with communities in Bauchi, Nigeria to advocate for the rights and opportunities every child and family deserves. Working alongside local leaders, educators, and advocates, the team is researching community challenges and developing solutions that promote education, child protection, healthy families, and economic opportunity through both advocacy and sustainable community development.
In many rural communities across Northern Nigeria, families struggle to meet their most basic needs. When children cannot access quality education, they are more likely to leave school to work, and girls who are no longer in school face an increased risk of early marriage. Limited economic opportunities, child labor, gender-based violence, and a lack of awareness of legal rights leave vulnerable children and families exposed to harm while making it even harder to break the cycle of poverty.
Team 26307 is working alongside local educators and community leaders to turn community priorities into lasting solutions. Donations help construct classrooms, renovate dilapidated schools, provide scholarships to keep girls in school, fund small businesses that help women who have been divorced as a result of domestic violence, establish vocational training opportunities, and deliver community workshops that strengthen child protection, healthy families, and economic opportunity.
The work of Team 26307 creates lasting change long after the internship ends. Every classroom constructed, school renovated, scholarship awarded, woman empowered to rebuild her life through entrepreneurship, and community workshop delivered helps protect human rights and expand opportunity. Together, these investments keep children in school, strengthen families, reduce poverty, and empower communities to create a safer, more just future for generations to come.
