Team xbot students have been meeting three times a week since January 4, 2014 to design, build and program a 120 lb robot that will collect a 25” ball and score in a 9’ high goal. The robot can collect the ball from the floor, move omnidirectional and shoot the ball using a catapult system. The students have learned programming, robot computer connection to private wireless control laptop, electronics, pneumatic systems, robot chassis drive systems and robot component design and assembly.
The team boasts 35 students with a demographic of 95% students of color, 65% free/reduced lunch students and 50% students from English Language Learner home. The students have balanced an intense team xbot robot build schedule of Tuesday/Thursday evenings and all day Saturdays with their school academic demands. Even though the primary purpose of the meetings has been robot design, build and assembly, there have been math, physics, and chemistry homework sessions.
The final build day for the robot build was Tuesday February 18th, 2014. The team will now test features of the test robot also built. Two weeks of refining the withheld robot catapult and the team will be competing at the league play and then the Regional Championship. We have raised $940 with $2560 to go. Thank you to those who have supported us!
