Take2 Camp's 10 Year Anniversary

By Lynn Cannon | Director

This year Take2 will celebrate its 10th year of providing children with autism spectrum disorders the support they require to understand and navigate the complexities of social interaction.  Over the last 10 years we have had the great pleasure of offering children a place where they can go and unpack the intricacies of the social world in a safe environment, demystify the secrets of friendship, make meaningful relationships, and have a whole lot of fun doing it!

Every year, during the off season, we work to refine our program from the year before. As part of the Take2 model we offer a parent training once a week for the duration of camp. To enhance the experience for parents, and support families as they work to generalize the skills their children are working on at camp, we have developed a parent workbook. We will help parents work through this workbook during our weekly trainings and support them as they try to more fully integrate the themes and skills their children learn at camp into their
own lives.

We also wanted to update you on the status of Campo Amigos, in Puerto Rico. After completing an incredibly successful first summer, the feedback and demand for the camp has been overwhelming. As a result we are currently helping them plan a second summer of Campo Amigos.  They have reported that over 70% of their campers have already asked to return for a second summer!

It is hard to believe that, with snow still on the ground, registration for the Summer of 2013 is almost complete. We have a wonderful group of staff lined up and are eager to get things started in July. We'll keep you posted on all of
the exciting things we have planned for this summer!

All the best,

Lynn Cannon
