Tagum City, Davao del Norte - A partner cooperative of NATCCO Network has been our great ally in our mission of equipping the children and the youth their much-needed social and financial skills. For years now, Tagum Cooperative strives to introduce cooperativism to the Youth and has developed and continuously operates various programs for the Youth through their established TC Youth Laboratory Cooperative. The Aflatoun Program is under their Laboratory Cooperative which grows consistently in terms of membership number.
Aside from financial literacy, they also provide different activities that will enhance their skills, knowledge, and attitude as the future leaders. When we asked Ms. Jenalyn ‘Jing’ on what is the most rewarding part in doing her job as Tagum Coop’s Youth Coordinator, she smiled and said, “The most rewarding part in working with the children is witnessing the fruit of our labour in inculcating in their minds and heart the importance of savings habit as manifested with their deposits in Tagum Cooperative.”
Tagum Cooperative isn’t particular on the volume, as Ms. Jing said, but on the frequency of deposits from the children who exerts their effort to allocate a part of their allowance for their savings. Aside also from financial literacy, they are also exposed socially to different activities that mold them to become competitive and self-confident by showcasing their talents and skills.
This success isn’t all that easy; they were able to maintain an active huge number of Aflatoun members with the support coming from the parents, school coordinators and their partner schools. This just proves that empowering the children and youth is totally possible, as long as we are all working towards the attainment of our goal. Do you agree, GlobalGivers?
