More teachers get involved in Visayas and Mindanao

By Anna Del Rosario | Youth Program Associate

As the year comes to a close end, the Aflatoun program continues to inspire more and more teachers all over the country. The nationwide social and financial journey started by NATCCO in 2006 is now being taught by more than 4,000 teachers in 500 schools. Aside from Aflatoun lessons, livelihood and other social activities also help inculcate values and responsibilities in the minds of children. In November 2014, two (2) trainings were conducted by the Aflatoun Team in Visayas and Mindanao.

Teachers in Belison, Antique attended the training on November 7-8, 2014 conducted by extended Aflatoun trainer, Ms. Girlie Lero and Youth Associate Anna Del Rosario. General Manager, Mr. Salvador Estaris, congratulated the teachers for accepting the invitation, noting that they have also taken the initiative to strengthen the community’s social and financial education. Their planning outputs indicated a year-long commitment of implementing the program in their respective schools. The buy-in of the program was also strong for the teachers since one of the school administrators is a member of Belison MPC’s Board of Directors. Everyone was especially thankful for the training commending the practicality and timeliness of the program.

A week after the training in Belison, the social and financial education program was also introduced in one of the municipalities near Antique, particularly in Lambunao, Iloilo. Ms. Girlie Lero and Ms. Lasalette Gumban, Youth Program officer of NATCCO, conducted the training on November 14-15, 2014 at Lambunao National High School. More than 50 teachers attended the training and expressed their appreciation for the program saying that it will actually be a big help not only for their personal lives but also to the lifestyles of the people in their community.

Beating the red light this month, Digos Market Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DIMAVEMC) conducted its Aflatoun Teachers’ Training on November 28-29, 2014 at the Prangel Snack Inn. Through the generous support of the Department of Education division of Digos City, six (6) schools were invited for the two-day training organized in partnership with DIMAVEMC. The invited schools were: Don Mariano Marcos Elementary School, Digos Central Elementary School, Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School, Aplaya Elementary School, Pedro Basalan Elementary School, and Digos City National High School. Teachers were more than grateful to be part of a nationwide program that works to equip chidlren with skills and knowledge that would make them change agents for their lives and for the community.
