While most schools are getting ready for winter break, several schools are embracing the idea of social and financial education brought to them by the Aflatoun Program. For the last two months of 2014, three of NATCCO’s cooperative partners officially launched the Aflatoun Program in their respective pilot schools. Students, teachers, and cooperatives in Zamboanga del Sur, Agusan Del Norte, and Digos City are gearing up for better savings, social and financial enterprises, and personal development for 2015.
At the far end of Zamboanga del Sur, students from six different schools were visited by Aflatoun; Midsalip Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MIFAMCO) in partnership with school administrators, led the formal launching for the program. NATCCO representative, Anna Del Rosario, and HR Officer and Aflatoun coordinator of MIFAMCO, Ms. Marlie Oling, oriented the students on the social and financial implementation of the program. MIFAMCO’s pilot schools are: Midsalip Central Elementary School, Midsalip Central Special Education School, Timbaboy Elementary School, Canipay Norte Elementary School, Buloron Elementary School, and Midsalip National High School.
Meanwhile on November 20-21, 2014, students from Carmen Central Elementary School, Carmen National High School, Cabadbaran South Central Elementary School, Cabadbaran National High School, Buenavista National High School, East Bayugan Central Elementary School, and Santiago Central Elementary School welcomed the Aflatoun Program brought to them by Agusan del Norte Teachers and Retirees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ANTRECCO) in partnership with NATCCO. Youth Program Associate Hazel Ann Mangaya oriented them about saving, spending, and social involvement emphasizing on the partnership between the schools and ANTRECCO. Most of the students opened their Aflatoun accounts soon after the launching given the popularity and good standing of ANTRECCO in the area.
Children in Digos City, Davao del Sur also ended the year with social and financial preparedness. Coop staff, teachers, and school administrators opted to organize the launching right before Christmas vacation to start instilling the value and discipline of saving money especially this Christmas season. The launching for DIMAVEMC was held on December 15-16, 2014 in six pilot (6) schools within the area. Teachers and school administrators are hopeful that Aflatoun will strengthen the molding of the students’ social and financial perspective throughout its implementation.
