Davao City, Philippines - Sta. Ana’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative’s (SAMULCO) training hall was buzzling with energy as teachers from different schools gathered together on June 28, 2014 for a one-day training on Child Social and Financial Education. The initial implementation of the Aflatoun Program in Davao City covers five (5) schools particularly St. Francis Xavier Learning Center, Talomo National High School, Magtuod High School, John Paul II College, and Davao City National High School.
The launching of the Aflatoun program was held in Exegesis School of Davao a day before the Teachers’ Training. Dannyboy Orilla and Anna Del Rosario, together with some of SAMULCO's Board of Directors conducted room-to-room orientations to introduce Aflatoun to the students and most of the classes were eager to open their savings accounts and receive the colorful passbooks and coin banks generously provided by SAMULCO. SAMULCO reassured the parents, teachers, and school administrators that the involvement of their children in the program is in good hands. Parents and teachers present during the launching were expressive of their expectations and gratitude for the program, commending the partner coop for the opportunity to help their children understand the value of saving.
