In the spirit of cooperativism and continuous education, a group of Filipino fellowmen from Parañaque City (Philippines) who are now all based in the United States of America coordinated with St. Joseph School Community for a "Book Drive" donation project. Through the help of San Dionisio Credit Cooperative (SDCC), a partner co-op of NATCCO based in Parañaque City, eight (8) balikbayan boxes filled with different kinds of donated books landed in the libraries of the chosen schools.
Ms. Cielito Garrido, CEO of SDCC, remarked on the timeliness of the donations to their celebration of this year's International Aflatoun Day. The book-giving activity was headed by SDCC officers together with Ms. Garrido and representatives of the donors. Most of the students eagerly took out several books and started reading to one another, exchanging books and smiles with their friends and teachers. The day was filled with energizing performances of song renditions and dance numbers making the event more special and memorable for everyone. Teachers and school administrators were more than thankful for the donations since their libraries were in need of more resource and reading materials. With the donated books, the students now have easier access to extensive learning and a wider grasp of literature.
Inspired by the afternoon’s activities, SDCC, NATCCO, and the donors expressed their mutual intention to organize another donation project next year. Truly, an investment in education promises the best interest.
