Ms. Riffy Torio, training associate from NATCCO, visited 6 schools last January 16 and 17, 2014 for the launching of the Aflatoun Program in partnership with Alfonso Lista Development Cooperative, a local partner located in the tribal mountain of Ifugao. Pupils from Namnama Elementary School, Naminlangan Elementary School, Potia Elementary School, Santo Domingo Elementary School, Alfonso Lista Elementary School, and Karagahan Elementary School enjoyed fun activities and presentations that highlighted the overall concept of the Program, its elements, and significance to the upbringing of a financially and socially responsible youth. BOD member, Norma Balubar, and Aflatoun Coordinator, Ms. Emilyne Domingo, were expressive of the Cooperative’s intention to help the children cultivate the value of saving and responsible spending. Parents and teachers were also supportive of this initiative considering that the Program can serve as the foundation in preparing the children to be more confident, resourceful, disciplined, frugal, and creative—values that could spell a bright future. The chosen schools have prepared respective presentations and activities for the launching; all of which were hosted by the children. The students were oriented beforehand about their role in the Program. Ms. Torio shared personal experiences about Aflatoun hoping to inspire them to persevere in their studies and savings. Ms. Balubar also commented on how important it is to stay consistent, dedicated, and active in order to fully grow in the Aflatoun experience.
