Dear friends and partners,

The year 2022 came and went and we are well into the second month of 2023. It was a great year. In the last year, there has been great growth within the teaching staff with professional development taking centre stage throughout the whole year. These included initiatives such as expanding teacher roles and responsibilities; providing opportunities for teachers to participate in invigilation in other schools. Providing roles for building collaborative partnerships.

In the coming months the school will provide opportunities to teachers to retool in competency-based instructional skills to enable us transition to Junior Secondary School. At year end we had planned to have teachers  train in aspects of Art therapy, ICT in education and constructivist instructional methods. The Art Therapy session was accomplished in mid January and the teachers got valuable insights into the use of Art to support learners going through stressful situations.

When the year ended in December we expected to employ a few extra teachers to help cover subjects added for the Junior Secondary section. The nation-wide reform initiatives will be successful with investments from partners, and various stakeholders. So far we have employed  two new teachers. A Bachelor of Education (Arts) teacher who is both the the Junior Secondary School Principal and the overall school head teacher, and whom we had to head-hunt and relocate from Mombasa.

Our head teacher is supported by a teacher who was with us but went to upgrade so as to be able to teach the Competency-Based Curriculum. While the other teachers are yet to upgrade they are able to support to some extent in the curriculum implementation but will still need more training. We certainly look forward to finding more ways together to support our teachers to become better at raising dependable citizens.
