Harvesting Income: Empowering Tamil Nadu Families through Tomato Farming
Organization: VOICE Trust
Location: Tamil Nadu, India
1. Executive Summary
Tomato farming offers a fast and reliable income source for smallholder farmers in Tamil Nadu. However, challenges such as price fluctuations, post-harvest losses, and limited market access prevent families from realizing full benefits.
This project supports 100 rural families, especially women agripreneurs, to improve tomato cultivation, increase income, and build resilient livelihoods through training, inputs, storage, and market linkages.

Small and marginal farmers face:
Unstable market prices
High input costs
Lack of storage infrastructure
Limited direct access to markets
Despite good yields, these barriers lead to reduced income and financial insecurity.

Training in climate-smart agriculture
Distribution of quality seeds and inputs
Establishment of low-cost storage systems
Facilitation of direct market linkages
Promotion of women-led agripreneurship
