Since the year 2000, we know P.K., young girl living in Kumhar Toli, Ranchi. I remember well the first day I met her personally: after a year of presence in the Tola, we decided to offer a course of preparation to achieve Matric, to the youth who couldn't try it or previously failed to pass it.
Many of the families of the Tola at that time were living on the subsistence line. And among them was the one of P.K.. The father in another Indian State, trying to earn the living for the entire, mother at home taking care of a growing boy, P.K (14/16 y.o.? difficult to say), and a third small girl.
No chances for studies, too costly for the family, P.K grew accompanying the mother in the small services around in well-to-do families, and learning to keep the house, but a strong desire to make the most of any chance for study, also! And so she was the first to fill the form for the tuition classes, obviously free of cost. A difficult course of study then started in order to prepare for the Matric Exams around 9 boys and girls, quickly reducing in number, up to leaving alone the resolute P.K.
Meanwhile, in 2004, we decided to start the Cèsar Silai Centre. So many in the city were leading a Training Centre: 3 to 6 months in order to skill a number of girls, often against quite high fees, and then left to their destiny without any further support. We, crazily, decide to start the training centre (free of cost!) in order to make up a Centre able to work and provide a fair compensation to the trainees
Starting to earn something, but always taking care of the family and the home, the desire to learn never extinguished. So, not only working in the CSC and serving at home, but soon she started also to study english and computer in our new Yatra Multifunctional Social Service centre! And once got the certificates then the Intermediate title (Higher Secondary Examination) and finally the Bachelor in Arts! Since few years, P.K. has been requested to be the secretary of the CSC, offering all her skills at the service of the development of the Centre.
So many years are passed, and the presence of P.K. has become a grant of peace and wisdom for all of us in the centre.
So many years are passed, and P.K. is still the loved daughter of all and at the same time has become an enduring rock of reference.
But the passing of years calls also to a further step in life ... and the time of marriage has finally come! Longed, waited and finally achieved!
