Behind the Indian Boom / The other side of the Miracle
Published: March 25, 2019
On Wednesday, March 27, 2019 in Turin Behind the Indian Boom starts, the Italian re-edition of the photo exhibition that the anthropologist Alpa Shah (LSE) and film-maker Simon Chambers created in London as a return collective of a three-year research project conducted with Jens Lerche (SOAS), on the theme "Inequality and poverty in India's economic boom".
The project is edited by journalist Daniela Bezzi, who coordinated the work with London.
The exhibition is spread in three different locations:
- Campus Luigi Einaudi (27 March - 2 April)
- International Training Center of the ILO (27 March - 17 May)
- Regione Piemonte Area (28 May - 15 June)
the exhibition will have a double inauguration on 27/3 both in the morning, with the planned conference at the Luigi Einaudi Campus of professors Jens Lerche and Alpa Shah, who led this research project, in comparison with the rector Gianmaria Ajani; and then again at 6 pm, inside the ITCILO Campus
The re-edition of the Exhibition for the city of Turin is part of the India Invisible Project, which aims to shed light on the hidden folds of the Indian economic boom, highlighting the realities of exploitation and discrimination.
This project is the work of a research group of the University of Turin consisting of Tommaso Bobbio, Chiara Correndo, Alessandra Consolaro and Domenico Francavilla, which operates within the ISA (Institute of Studies on Asia) and the Departments of Jurisprudence, Humanistic Studies and Cultures Politics and Society of the University of Turin.
Invisible India takes place in collaboration with the Centro Studi Sereno Regis, Citizenships, ITCILO and the non-profit association Jarom.
Behind the Indian Boom is part of the Biennale Democrazia 2019, a cultural event promoted by the City of Turin and created by the Turin Foundation for Culture. The aim of the initiative is to spread a culture of democracy that can be translated into democratic practice.
Now in its sixth edition, Biennale Democrazia will take place in Turin from Wednesday 27th to Sunday 31st March 2019 and, with the title VISIBLE INVISIBLE, will host a reflection on news and distortions produced by a world of "high visibility".
