A Fresh Start for a Lifeline in Wildlife Care

By Joan Reid | Volunteer Facility Manager

The Volunteer Paint Job
The Volunteer Paint Job

Behind every animal we rescue is a safe place where they can heal. Recently, that safe place was at risk.
It began with our fence — worn and failing — no longer able to keep foxes out or protect the vulnerable wildlife in our care. Rebuilding it was urgent and costly… but essential. No sooner had we completed that project than we faced another challenge. Our supply shed and rubber/quarantine room — critical spaces for treating sick and injured animals — had to be completely rebuilt after the roof collapsed due to mould and termite damage.

For a small volunteer-run organisation, these back-to-back repairs have been an enormous financial strain.
But in the face of challenge, our community stepped up in the most incredible way.
We were fortunate to work with a truly compassionate builder who took the time to understand the unique needs of wildlife care. This isn’t standard construction — even small design details can mean the difference between recovery and further injury. Thanks to his generosity, he significantly reduced his quote, knowing every dollar saved would go directly back into helping animals.
That kindness made a world of difference.
And the support didn’t stop there.
Once construction was complete, volunteers and partners came together to protect and finish the space:
• MediDivert supplied protective clothing
• Bunnings generously donated paint and materials
• The amazing team of corpoate volunteers gave their time and energy, painting inside and out
Because of them, this vital space is now strong, safe, and ready to support wildlife for years to come.

Why Your Support Matters

While we are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown so far, the reality is that projects like this stretch our resources to the limit.
Every dollar we spend on repairs is a dollar not immediately available for:
• Emergency rescues
• Critical medical treatment
• Food and ongoing care for injured wildlife
That’s where you come in.
Your donation will help us:
• Replenish funds used for these urgent rebuilds
• Maintain safe, purpose-built spaces for recovery
• Continue saying “yes” to the next injured animal that needs us

Thank You
To everyone who has contributed — through donations, time, skills, or supplies — thank you. You have helped us rebuild not just a facility, but a safe haven for wildlife in need.
If you’re able to give, no matter how small, you’ll be directly supporting the rescue, care, and recovery of Australia’s most vulnerable animals.
Together, we can keep giving them a second chance.
