Swim for Good is a global movement that started to raise awareness for the journey many refugees make across the Aegean Sea in search of safety. We swim to shed light on humanity's complex relationship with water. Our history is full of tragic and triumphant moments on the water; lives lost to its depths, souls it has carried to freedom, and athletes like Yusra who have turned its challenge into opportunity.
Humans have a complex relationship with water. It can be a source of trauma, or a source of great joy. Many who join the swim classes on Lesvos have crossed the sea in search of safety, and experienced trauma during their journey. Finding joy through swimming can be incredibly healing.
Swim for Good is a 12km swim relay event. But really, it's much more than that. It is a movement that enables people all over the world to heal their hurt and trauma through contact with water. Sport, and especially swimming, can be a powerful tool for healing when it's delivered in a safe and open capacity.
Our swim program on Lesvos is helping refugees, but we envision swim programs all over the world that help many vulnerable groups to overcome trauma. Helping those most vulnerable in our society will lead to a better world for everyone. After all, a rising tide lifts all boats!
