Dear Supporter,
We are writing to let you know that, after much discussion, deliberation, and consideration, the Sweet Fields board recently voted to return our lease to Montgomery County. The board realized that as a small, community-supported nonprofit, we were unable to meet the numerous, costly, and unexpected constraints of this property.
This was not an easy decision - all board members, volunteers, and supporters worked very, very hard to get past these challenges, or find alternatives. But, it was not possible given the restrictions placed on us. Farming is time-sensitive, and the administrative burdens of working in a public park exceeded our capacity and finances as a small nonprofit.
Any remaining funds and assets will be turned over to the Farm Park Preservation Association (FPPA). They have a very similar mission to ours, and are a 501(c)(3) non-profit. All past donations are still eligible for tax-deduction, and will still benefit a great cause.
If you have further questions, please email info@sweetfields.org.
