Winding down from the school year, we are proud to share that GlobeMed at CU-Boulder reached our fundraising goal of $10,000 for the 2017-2018 academic year! It is thanks to the generosity of our donors and the hard work of our organization's members that we were able to achieve this goal, so thank you. We hope to continue working together with our community in creating a sustainable impact in other peoples' lives.

100% of this money has been sent to our nonprofit partner, Himalayan Health Care (HHC), to help with development projects in the rural villages of Nepal. They hope to use these funds to continue their latrine construction project as homes damaged in the 2015 earthquake have begun reconstruction. HHC is also looking into conducting important surveys regarding drinking water channels and accessibility. With new infrastructure in place, HHC will further their efforts in creating a higher quality life for the Nepali people through healthcare, community education, and income-generation.

While school has come to a halt in Boulder, our newly transitioned executive board is working hard on planning interesting new ideas for the next academic year. We hope to put on some big community events to increase our local outreach in the Boulder area.

In recent events for GlobeMed, our Grass Roots On-site Work (GROW) interns have just returned from their exciting internship in Nepal working with HHC. They spent 7 weeks learning more about local efforts in the Nepali villages and collecting data about HHC's development projects. In case you're interested in reading more in-depth about our interns' stories and experiences in their own words, their blog is linked.

A few of the reasons we send interns to Nepal as part of the GROW program is to build connections with the local community and evaluate the impacts of our fundraising efforts. Our GROW interns were able to spend time with Anil Parajuli, the co-founder of Himalayan Health Care, and learn about the history and culture of Nepal as well as recent changes to the organization's development projects. The interns also had the opportunity to visit local businesses and meet individuals in different facets of life who do significant work in uplifting their own community through sustainable programming and education.

Ultimately, we hope that our interns' on-site experience not only helps us understand our role in supporting this community, but that it also let's us get to know the community members on a more personal level. That relationship is the most crucial part of our efforts and we hope to continuously foster and support that bond.

Thank you again for your constant support of both GlobeMed and GlobeMed's mission as we move into a new year.

As usual, check out our website for the latest updates on GlobeMed at CU-Boulder!
