We are very excited to report on an eventful and fulfilling year for GlobeMed at CU-Boulder. Since January 2017, we have sent a group of GROW interns to Nepal, attended the national GlobeMed Summit Conference, hosted numerous events to help fundraise to support our partner Himalayan Health Care (HHC), as well as countless productive and enjoyable chapter meetings.
Over this time, due to great success we've achieved with our previous project with HHC, which focused on providing goats, safer cookstoves, and constructing latrines, we've updated our project funding goals to more accurately match what HHC and the Dhading district have expressed they are interested in working on with our chapter. As a result, we are continuing to work on progressing the One Home One Toilet latrine construction campaign, but also working on securing funding to enable the Lapa Secondary School to be rebuilt. This imperative school was destroyed in an earthquake in 2015, and HHC has expressed a strong desire to focus heavy efforts on rebuilding the school so that students may have a sheltered, structurally sound, useable educational facility.
We have had a lot of success so far with our Support School and Latrine Construction in Nepal project. Between individual giving, GlobalGiving donations, and proceeds from our annual Benefit Gala fundraiser event, we are able to send just over $4,000 to HHC to enable continued latrine construction and to contribute to the reconstruction of the Lapa Secondary School. During our chapters last trip to the villages of Tipling, Lapa, and Sertung within the Dhading District in Nepal, our GROW interns gathered valuable feedback and data from the community regarding the progress of the One Home One Toilet latrine construction campaign. This information has been used to better work with the community to continue collaborating with the community to achieve the goals they have identified.
All of this could not have achieved without the generous help and support from those who have donated to GlobeMed at CU-Boulder. We hope all of those who have donated, and other members of the community, feel like they are part of the GlobeMed team and can share in our successes and progress together.
