The peace agreement and the status of resettlement

By Tsegay Wolde-Georgis | Project Leader

Dear supports and contributors,

Following the Pretoria Peace Agreement between the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front and the Ethiopian Federal government, we are expecting the implementation of several activities in Tigray. Banks have opened in the main cities, there is the internet and mobile phone as well but not yet in the rural areas.

One of the major situations is the resettlement of people back in their homes after being evacuated due to the ethnic cleansing from Western Tigray. Some of them have moved to Sudan but many of them have moved to the central and Eastern Tigray.

We are just waiting for the resettlement of the internal refugees back to their homes. Once the occupiers are out of all Tigray we shall look into how the project can benefit the Tigrayans in Sudan by looking at how they will be affected by the resettlement project. So far no one has been returned to their homes and the interim government of Tigray is working with the federal government on how to control the occupied region and resettle the internal and international refugees.

I will keep you posted as new developments emerge in this area. Thank you again for your support and interest to help the displaced people of Tigray.

cheers,

Tsegay Wolde-Georgis
