Dear Friend of Ishahayi,
Happy New Year to you and yours! The 2014 school year came to a joyous close as our last visit of the year out to The Light School consisted of the children singing and dancing in appreciation for all of the support that they have received this past year. Their joy radiated from their smiles in appreciation for all of the love and support that their school received in 2014.
Our “Reading Challenge” continues to positively impact the future of these children by increasing their levels of literacy and vocabulary. They are continuing to earn a new backpack for their successes and are overwhelmingly proud to reach new educational goals. The computer lab is also continuing to support the fulfillment of their future.
The school’s kitchen continues to become a staple in The Light School’s future. With our new “Hot Lunch Program” that we instated this past year, the new kitchen is making sure that every tummy is fed so that all of the children can focus more on their future and not the daily struggle of poverty that, thanks to you, they are overcoming. The new generator is continuing to support the kitchen’s needs. The school is also in the works of becoming more self-sufficient in regards to meal planning by creating a chicken coop to ensure that each students has enough protein in their diet every day.
The students are taking great pride in their new Athletic Uniforms that they started wearing this past Fall as well. They have used them to play sports in, as to not damage their Daily Uniforms that they continue to wear. With the new Athletic Uniforms, the students have been able to allow their Daily Uniforms to stay cleaner and last longer, which the parents enjoy!
We are so proud of the year that we have had, and we cannot thank you enough for your continued love, compassion, and support of these amazing kids, for they are the future of Nigeria!
