Seba is a young leader with the Blending Spectrum Programme at The YP Foundation. She ran a theatre club for six months with young children between the ages of 10-15 year olds at Sunder Nagar Nursery which is an urban slum in Delhi. Seba developed a curriculum on theatre which in itself was a new and an educational experience for her. She initially found it challenging to implement the curriculum with the children however the sessions ended up being very interactive and fun. In the beginning, few of the children were shy as they would not make eye contact but towards the end, everyone wanted to be a part of the session. The children also gained confidence to voice their opinions on the kind of games they wanted to play.
Seba realised that there was a sense of prejudice among the children who belonged to different neighbourhoods. To combat this, she had to improvise the session in a way that ensured that children belonging to different neighbourhoods were partnered together in the hope to create friendly interactions. Despite facing several conflicts initially, the children ultimately worked with each other and performed plays together during their sessions. Working so closely with the children inside the Sundar Nagar Nursery community has given Seba a fresh perspective on their lives. She has realised that they are multitalented as they performed very well during the sessions.
As an individual, she has learnt to improvise the sessions and most importantly she has learnt to be patient with children belonging to different communities. A young leader like Seba is able to continue this work in the Sundar Nagar Nursery Community, thanks to support from donors like yourself!
