In the second quarter of 2026, the project continued to support one of Cambodia’s remaining independent newsrooms in delivering accurate, public-interest reporting in a challenging environment. Over the past three months, the newsroom has produced and published 202 credible news stories in multimedia formats, including 112 in-depth news reports and 3 investigative stories on key political, social, economic, and environmental issues. These reports reached approximately 55,872 online views via the website and 8,672,715 reached through social media.
Among the published stories, three were selected as examples of reporting that highlights key public-interest concerns, including the impact of Cambodia’s first wind projects on Indigenous communities, the struggles of Cambodia’s “Friday Women” as they take their fight to the ballot box, and the challenges faced by displaced communities along Cambodia’s borders.
During the quarter, 12 cases of human rights violations affecting 12 journalists and media workers, including four women, were documented. One environmental journalist received legal support from CamboJA, while two advocacy actions were undertaken to address the imprisonment and safety of journalists. In addition, direct engagement with the Ministry of Information was conducted to seek immediate intervention and support for a female journalist at risk.
CamboJA also raised press freedom concerns with diplomats and the UN Special Rapporteur, calling for stronger measures to protect journalists and improve Cambodia’s media environment.
Independent media appreciates your continued support and commitment to ensuring access to credible news in Cambodia.
