Many low-income families in Kalutara and Balangoda struggle to afford essential maternity and newborn supplies. Pregnant mothers may need to choose between preparing for childbirth and meeting basic household needs such as food, transport, and healthcare. Without adequate support, mothers may reach delivery without essential items for themselves and their newborns. This financial burden can add stress during an already important and challenging time.
Sathkara Social Service Foundation will identify 100 pregnant mothers from financially vulnerable families in Kalutara and Balangoda and provide each mother with a Mother & Baby Care Pack worth USD 50. The packs will contain essential maternity, postpartum, and newborn-care items. This support will reduce the immediate financial burden on families and help mothers prepare for childbirth with essential supplies for themselves and their babies.
The project will help vulnerable mothers access essential supplies during childbirth and the early stages of newborn care, reducing some financial pressure on low-income families. By supporting mothers at a critical stage, the project can contribute to greater dignity, preparedness, and well-being for mothers and babies. Sathkara Social Service Foundation aims to expand this initiative to support more vulnerable families in other communities across Sri Lanka.
