The Discovereum is the brainchild of Drs J.N. Maraire and A.N. Chiura who upon relocating back to their homeland Zimbabwe recognised a gap in children’s learning resources in areas such as science, technology, art, and conservation. They sought to establish a learning centre for children and young adults as well as a sanctuary for families to learn collaboratively and interactively with each other. And so, the Discovereum was founded as the first museum with a strong focus on free choice learning and learning through play.

The museum relocated from his former premises in Msasa, Harare to Natal Road, Avondale. On relocation a consensus was reached that it would be best to build a museum on land owned by Dr. Maraire and Dr. Chiura. We broke ground at the beginning of this year and look forward to completing the project in the third quarter of the year.

Our funding will be coming from GlobalGiving as well as partnerships with corporate.

A gentleman by the name of Norman Nkirinjani who is based in Harare under the GlobalGiving umbrella is set to meet with us to view the building site at his soonest convenience.

We look forward to participation in HIFA (Harare International Festival of the Arts) from the 1st to the 6th of May.

The Discovereum is making great progress and on the way to being a beacon of innovative education beyond the classroom within Zimbabwe. The very first of its kind!
