Empowerment Training can help develop a person's Character
We met Saengchan around the year 2005. She was our volunteer who was involved in developmental work of children and youths in her hometown of Phitsanuloke, Wang Thong. Her quiet and responsible demeanor had led her to be chosen by the local centre where she works in, to be responsible for the group of children that the centre was in charge of.
At that time, our Organisation embarked on a program for selected leaders to train them to be Servant Leaders In the Next Generation (S.L.I.N.G. Program), in the hope that they will help to steer our Organisation in her future directions and paths, so that we can more effectively meet the needs of the new generation.
THe 2 year program required Saengchan and other participants to read, report and internalise basic principles of what a Servant Leader entails, she was put into circumstances that stretched her physically, spiritually and mentally in challenging activities like rock climbing, outdoor survival and to help raise funds for the team to go on a overseas trip for training. Coming from a poor background in the upcountry village, Saenchan has to overcome her fears, anxieties and weaknesses to be able to go through the program. The then 27 year-old Saengchan started to build her self-confidence and being the oldest amongst the participants, she began to be bolder in expressing her views, as the team took turns to lead.
Fast forward to the present 2022, Saengchan has long left her old place of work when the centre closed down, but she has gone on to further her education in the field of health care for upcountry primary healthcare centres as the first port of call for villagers who are ill and need medical help before being sent to the nearby hospital.
She volunteers for us by keeping a lookout for flood victims who are in need of help whenever Wang Thong river banks overflow and flood the neighbouring villages.
She now has a steady income, positive in her outlook and a willingness to serve others, both through her profession and as our volunteer.
Saengchan says, "I am really appreciative of the opportunity to be in the S.L.I.N.G. program and I have been able to use many of the valuable lessons learnt and applied it in my life."
The Foundation strongly believes that with right and timely training and mentoring, we will be able to Empower and Build Strong Serving Leaders for the future of the family, community and Thailand!
Thanks to all donors, partners and volunteers who has enabled us to do just that.
The Foundation would like to wish all a Joyous Christmas and a Blessed 2023.
