Crises Reveal Your Character and Show Who You Are
You may have heard of sayings like "When you face a difficult situation, it can either make you BITTER OR BETTER", OR that "A Crisis does not MAKE YOU, but show what you are MADE OF" ?
In the recent months, many countries and peoples all over the world have had to face an invisible, yet real threat in the shape of a corona virus, previously unknown to most and it's devastating effects has now caused a global pandemic resulting in 4,197,152 people infected and causing 284,096 deaths, even as I write.
This has thrown many into the deep end, resulting in despair, hopelessness and depression. The loss of jobs and destruction to lives affect the family, community and country, and Thailand is not spared.
It is during these difficult times that it brings out what a person is really like, for example, selfishness, fear, greed, unforgiveness, revenge, prejuice... a whole ton of bad behaviours that we have seen reported daily in the news..... OR selflessness, sharing, forgiveness, faith, impartiality, generosity, etc... also reported in the media.
We in the Foundation deeply believe that virtuous CHARACTER, NEVER sprout up overnight, but that it has to be nutured and tendered, pruned and corrected over years.
Thus the work that we have strived to do in this particular project, where through educational and experiential lessons, our grassroot Volunteers meet with children and youths, week after tedious week, mingling with them and using teachable moments to impact their lives by exemplary living. These children grow up and eventually taking the place of those who had helped them when they were young.
When fear due to the pandemic started to spread, many were hoarding items like disinfectants, masks and staples. The Foundation initiated the sew-a-mask project, in attempt to help with the shortage that was rampant in the country. As a result, our Volunteers and even some of the young leaders took up the challenge to help sew the masks. It was not an easy task as it took hours for the inexperienced to learn a new skill.
Instead of wasting time at home in front of the TV or playing with her handphone, N (our young leader) volunteered to help the sew-a-mask project, saying, "I am glad that I can be of help to those who need these masks, especially in their work as front-liners. Although it is tiring, it is worth while." It takes a teenager who is strong in her inner person to be able to sacrifice her comforts for the sake of others, and THAT is CHARACTER!
It is our hope and goal to reach as many innocent and impressionable minds who may easily be led astray in the wiles of this world, especially as a majority come from broken and unstable homes.
The Foundation sincerely thanks all donors who share the same burden and have so generously given to our cause, in this work that few would venture into... Thank you for helping us build a strong community of caring individuals!
Take care and keep safe!
