The project is working with more than 500 girls in rural Ganjam, Kandhamal & Dhenkanal district of Odisha. Flagged off in April officially the project is into the baseline data collection now.
All these areas are showing high child marriage incidents specifically early marriage. Nearly 50 villages are under the coverage of the project area. The community organisers are mobilising the adolescent girls into the groups and presently there are 50 groups formed in each of the villages. The age group varies from 10-19 and the meetings of the girls are taking place once a week.
Girls have been talked about the gender discrmination and gender based violence and being girls how important it is to udnerstajd the gender based violence. Detailed discussion on child marriage, it's cause, preevention and addressing the issue got discussed among the girls.
Girls have taken oath not to get marry before they attain 18 years of age which is illegal and also extend support to toe other girls those are forced into marriage.
because of the general election of the State much work could not have been done. We have been discussing with the Sports star of Odisha to become Ambassador of the program and motivate the girls to join the sports club that is getting promoted in the villages.
Post election the devastating cyclone Fani also put the work on hold for the time being. The young girls have volunteered for the cyclone affected area fir cleaning and serving .
