Ms Ruth (not her real name) from a humble background enrolled on a certificate nursing programme at Mayanja Memorial Medical Training Institute (MMTI) in 2019. With the disruptions brought about by the COVID 19 pandemic Ruth’s parents were not able to meet the school dues for the 5th and last Semester of her programme in 2021. When the opportunity of support was advertised from the Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation - GlobalGiving scholarship she applied. She was awarded the scholarship of an equivalent of USD500.00. She was able to complete her Nursing Certificate programme and passed the national examinations for certification as an enrolled nurse. She was registered and licensed as an Enrolled Nurse by the Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council in 2022. She eventually got employed as a nurse in health centre in her home district where she continues to serve in her professional capacity. Ruth is very appreciative of the support she received from GlobalGiving through MMHF that enabled her to complete her programme in Nursing.
