APPRECIATION AND JOY FOR OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

Through our efforts on Global Giving, the Mayanja Memorial Scholarship Fund had raised a new round of approximately USD 4,500 in January 2012. This was used to cover the tuition for ten students – all of whom are in their final year of the program and will receive their nurse certification soon.

Funding secured through Global Giving in the last year was also used to ensure that four additional students finished their state final exams and scored very high ranks! We are very proud of this achievement and recognize that it is owed in a large part to the funding that we have received from you, our generous sponsors. It allowed students to concentrate on their books and practical exams and not worry about piecing together different financing to cover their educational expenses.

As the Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation, we are overjoyed to see how this joint effort with Global Giving has offered many young Ugandans a bright future. It has given aspiring nurses a clear pathway to employment in the health sector, a strong foundation of clinical training which can be further deepened over the years, and a tangible means to uplift their family’s living conditions.

Below is a photo illustrating the joy that Edith – a scholarship recipient – brings to her work as she trains as a nurse-midwife. Like many other students at the Mayanja Memorial Training Institute, Edith is an orphan to HIV/AIDS.  She is intelligent, curious and eager to learn but simply unable to source the funds necessary for her higher education. The Scholarship Fund has will cover her payments for all five semesters, putting a smile to her face now and offering her a whole new set of opportunities tomorrow.
