We at Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation are grateful to the support you render to us through GlobalGiving. Of the eighteen nursing students supported so far, seven students are out in the field, employed in different Health Units across the Western Region. We are very proud of their achievement!
However, the number of applicants to the scholarship fund continues to increase. Nearly twenty students applied for a scholarship last semester, with ten qualifying as per the criteria set. Among these, two students were born HIV positive and have lost both their parents to the virus. Both students are being supported by well-wishers in the community, though they still need to work during their holidays to raise money to supplement these contributions. This leads to constant poor health due to the hard labor. Moreover, even with the extra earnings they find it difficult to afford a balanced diet, pay transportation expenses to the health centre for their ARVs and manage their general upkeep. Support from our generous network at Global Giving will make the situation lighter and better for these young aspiring nurses and allow them to concentrate on their studies.
Please join hands with us to raise more money for the project so that we can support vulnerable Ugandan youth have fruitful lives and improve our country’s human resources for health.
