First of all we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to collect the initial 500USD for this cause.
After the deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria AfD opened a new chapter in its unique way of intervention and capacity building. In order to act promptly AfD formed partnerships on the ground.
AfD’s institutional humanitarian policy reflects on significance of AfD’s partnerships with national and international organisations and civil society members who poses necessary expertise, geographical access and knowledge of the local community structures. In the context of this crisis and acknowledging the critical role that local partners play, AfD tends to ensuring harmonization and consistency when it comes to flexible arrangements to ensure that communities and populations in need are being served.
Since the disaster happened during the winter season immediate support was required for warm clothes, blankets, medical kits. During this period AfD build two partnerships with one organization in Switzerland and another in Turkey. AfD volunteers participated in a collective collection of goods, medicine and clothes that were transported to the site by our partner from Switzerland in February. Our donated blankets, clothes, medical kits and essential items reached to the displaced people in Turkey.
In order to have a more proactive action AfD reached to several donors to provide further support to the displaced populations and particularly reflect on the need to the poor and displaced communities in northern Aleppo in Syria and southern Turkye to scale up provision of our response to nutritional needs of these communities. Through our partnership with the Turkish NGO which is placed well to operate on the ground between northern Syria and southern Turkey, we will be able to provide:
-Nutritional screening of children under 5 and provision of nutritional supplements in Turkey and Syria
-Provision of clean drinking water to address the increased risk of a cholera epidemic in Syria
- Provision of specific medical checks for children under 5 in Syria
-Setting up a mobile clinic to travel to the affected provinces, provision of basic medical assessments and distribution of essential medicines in Turkey and Syria
-Mental health counselling for victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria
We thank you for your interest in supporting AfD to further engage on the ground and provide most needed services.
