Best practices in education are always changing, so we keep training our Foster Grandparents — senior volunteers who mentor children — on the most current methods.
That’s one reason why school principals keep asking for more Foster Grandparents. Another reason? Our seniors form a unique bond with the children in each classroom.
As they help children grow, our seniors gain a sense of purpose. By staying active and engaged, they improve their own mental and physical health.
This past year, our 153 Foster Grandparents nurtured children at 28 sites including classrooms and Howard University Hospital. They volunteered 78,928 hours to mentor 463 children in literacy, math, motor skills, and social-emotional skills.
Thanks to generous hearts like yours, we can give our Foster Grandparents the computer training that they also need to support children in Title 1 schools — the students who need the most help.
Your donation makes this happen. The children and seniors appreciate you!
