UPO’s Foster Grandparent Program trains low-income seniors with caring spirits to provide attention, guidance, and support to DC children in a variety of local settings, including early education centers, elementary schools, hospitals, and youth programs. Volunteering as a Foster Grandparent (FGP) is the perfect opportunity for individuals aged 55 and older to share their experience and wisdom with children who will cherish the lessons to be learned. Help is needed to cover the cost of training, materials, uniforms, and daily travel for more than 200 low-income DC senior volunteer FGPs. In addition we have a waiting list of 100 seniors to be FGPs, 10 educational institutions seeking to join the program and every current partnering volunteer site has requested additional FGPs.
Support UPO's Foster Grandparents Program has set a GOAL to raise an additional $1,070 during the next few weeks to provide a weekly stipend for 10 additional FGP’s in an effort to support the urgent need for more FGP’s to provide critical mentoring and tutoring services daily to DC children from birth to 21 years of age in a variety of local settings.
GlobalGiving Rewards Bonus Day tomorrow, Thursday July 18, will provide us with a great opportunity to meet our GOAL.
