In Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, conflict and displacement have made it increasingly difficult for many children to access education and live in a safe and supportive environment. Orphaned and vulnerable children are particularly exposed to family separation, poverty, violence, malnutrition, and other protection risks. For these children, staying in school can mean more than receiving an education it can provide stability, hope, and a path toward a better future.
Our project aims to support 70 orphaned and vulnerable children affected by armed conflict by helping them access formal education while strengthening the protection systems around them. We will also raise awareness of child rights, support training for local authorities and community leaders on child protection and the monitoring of serious violations against children, and strengthen community-based monitoring and referral of protection concerns.
We are currently preparing the project and mobilizing the resources needed to begin implementation. Our team is identifying the children who will benefit and the trainers and local stakeholders who will participate in the planned activities. The total budget is US$10,000, and we have already raised US$120 through the first contributions from our supporters. This is an encouraging start, but we still need the support of more donors to reach our goal and begin delivering the planned assistance.
