The Oregon Zoo Foundation (OZF) helps the Oregon Zoo achieve its mission "to inspire our community to create a better future for wildlife" by funding its conservation, education and animal welfare programs. PLEASE NOTE: Donations through GlobalGiving cannot be applied to costs associated with Oregon Zoo memberships.
Many people don't understand or appreciate nature at a time when wildlife and the environment need all the help they can get. Endangered species are blinking out of existence at an increasing rate, and human actions are often to blame. The International Union for Conservation of Nature says that this "escalating loss is a serious threat to humans and our way of life, now and in the future. Well managed natural resources are crucial to sustainable development" (www.iucn.org/what/biodiversity).
The Oregon Zoo's animal collection, exhibits, programs and conservation work motivate people to care about and act on behalf of wildlife by providing opportunities for discovery and engagement. Zoo education programs annually reach 900,000+ people with a total of 1.5 million visitors per year. The Oregon Zoo Foundation is the zoo's non-profit, 501(c)(3) support organiation that raises public awareness and secures financial resources.
If we are to protect our increasingly threatened environment, communities around the world must act decisively in its defense. We help our community develop the knowledge and motivation needed to successfully conserve nature now and in the future. The Oregon Zoo serves as an important source of information about the care and well-being of more than 2,000 individual animals that represent 250 species of wildlife, their status in the wild and human activities that directly affect their future.
